Metallic Paint
Modern Masters gives the beginner and the professional the ability to create exciting finishes on large surfaces without the headache of toxic products. They combine metal, mica and conventional pigments in their facility to create the Metallic Paint Collection. This unique approach enables them to create colors never before available in a water-based paint.
If applying Metallic Paint to a large flat surface (wall) we STRONGLY recommend Modern Masters Metallic Paint Roller and Paint Extender.When applying Opaque and Semi-Opaque colors the Paint Roller and Extender in combination will assist in achieving a smooth, shimmering finish with no lap marks. Sheer colors should be sprayed or applied with a foam brush or roller and should NOT need the Paint Extender.
For added protection in high traffic areas or for exterior applications we also recommend the use of MasterClear Protective Top Coat.
COVERAGE CHARACTERISTICS: Colors in the Metallic Paint Collection contain three levels of coverage/hide: OPAQUE, SEMI-OPAQUE and SHEER. OPAQUE colors have excellent coverage/hide and two coats are recommended for best results. SEMI-OPAQUE colors have good hide and three coats are recommended for best results. SHEER colors are translucent overcoats that give luster to traditional paints, other Metallic colors or faux finishes/decorative finishes. Please check your color for coverage level.
WHERE TO USE: Ideal for walls, ceilings, doors, trim, furniture, lamps, carved objects, etc...
SURFACE PREPARATION: Follow standard procedures for properly preparing surface for the application of water-based latex paints. Surface must be free of dirt, oil and grease. Remove all loose, flaking or chalking surfaces. Do not apply over slick or glossy surfaces until they are properly prepared. Prime surfaces with a 100% acrylic latex primer and allow to dry completely.
APPLICATION METHODS: Modern Masters Metallic Paints can be brushed, rolled or sprayed onto any paintable, appropriately primed interior or exterior surface. For harsh exterior environments we recommend top coating with an exterior grade acrylic varnish. Since each color is a unique blend of pigments, hide and coverage may vary. Test product before coating large projects. Do not apply below 58 degrees F. Stir paint well before use. SPRAYING: We recommend spraying with an HVLP sprayer. Add 16 ounces of water or Extender for Rolling per gallon. Over thinning will result in loss of hide and sheen. ROLLING: When rolling, we recommend adding 16 ounces of Extender for Rolling per gallon of paint. Use a high quality medium nap roller or the Roller for Metallic Paint. Finish your surface by rolling off paint in one direction (ceiling to floor). This will help orient the metallic particles creating a smoother finish. BRUSHING: Use a high quality brush recommended for use with water based semigloss latex paints.
COVERAGE: Coverage will be appx 320-400 square feet per gallon, 80-100 square feet per quart or 13-16 square feet per 6 ounce container, depending on surface porosity and method of application.
DRY TIMES: Dries to re-coat in appx 30-45 minutes. Dry to touch in appx 1 hour.
CLEAN UP: Clean brushes, rollers, tools and equipment with warm, soapy water.
